Welcome to 'What's the Plott?'

 

I put the cart before the horse. I  was inspired to write my 1st post and then crazy enough to publish it... But, let me back up and introduce myself and this blog, What's the Plott? 

I am Amy Plott. I am unapologetically obsessed with Jesus! I have all boys and I love being a boymom! My husband, Peter, is a legit cowboy and a man's man, and  I am grateful for his name truly identifying him as our Rock! 

Life with boys is never boring. It’s loud, it’s messy, and just when you think you’ve seen it all, one of them finds a new way to shock you. (Trust me, I’ve learned the hard way that you actually do need to make a rule about not microwaving forks.)

This little corner of the internet—What's the Plott?—is where I share the stories, struggles, and joys of raising boys, building a family in the country, balancing ministry and mission, and holding fast to our faith in the middle of it all. And somehow through the day-to-day stories, keeping focused on HIS Story and the only plot that matters!  

Here’s what you’ll find here:

  • Faith-filled parenting moments – because raising kids isn’t just about behavior, it’s about shaping hearts.

  • Funny stories from the trenches – the kind that make you laugh, cringe, and say, “Oh good, it’s not just us.”

  • Life lessons from the country – chores, adventures, and the unique ways God teaches through simple, everyday living.

My goal isn’t to give you a picture-perfect plan for parenting and family life—because let’s be real, boys don’t fit neatly into plans and husbands and wives don't always agree. Instead, I want to share encouragement for the journey. A reminder that God called us to this role on purpose. And that even when it feels like we’re correcting the same behavior for the 100th time, He’s still working in us and through us.

So stick around. Laugh with me. Learn with me. Be reminded that you’re not alone in the crazy, wonderful calling of parenting.

A Flock of Our Own

Today was a big day on the Plott farm — the kind of day that hums with excitement and smells like hay and fresh beginnings. We brought home three new sheep — 2 year-old ewes and 1 ram — rescued from a nearby herd. They were headed for slaughter, but instead, they came home with us — hand picked  — chosen! What was a terrifying day for them was, in truth, a day of salvation. The truck ride was bumpy, the new pen unfamiliar, and their wide eyes and quiet stares said it all — fear, confusion, and uncertainty. But what they didn’t know is that they were being rescued. They were being set apart for something better. They were being saved to start a new flock.  It struck me in that moment how much we’re like those sheep. We cling to what’s familiar — our routines, our habits, even the things that hold us back — because they feel safe. We resist the unknown, not realizing that sometimes God is leading us away from what’s comfortable so He can bring us into something better....

Everyday Disagreements & the Choice for Peace

If you’ve ever lived in a house full of boys, you know that disagreements aren’t rare — they’re part of the daily soundtrack. From who left the shoes in the doorway, to who ate the last snack, to why chores never seem to get done on time, conflict has a way of slipping into even the best days. It’s easy to let pride take the wheel in those moments. Pride says: “I need to be right.” Pride says, “They need to see it my way.” Pride says, “I deserve the last word.” However, the truth is that pride doesn’t build families. Peace does.  Scripture reminds us: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” – Romans 12:18  Peace means stepping back long enough to ask: “What matters more — being right, or being together?” In a family, the choice is almost always together.
